EFFECTIVENESS OF BROMELAIN MOUTHRINSE IN GINGIVAL INFLAMMATION AND BACTERIAL PLAQUE AMONG ADOLESCENTS: A RANDOMIZED CLINICAL TRIAL

Background: Mouthwashes are adjunct to regular brushing and flossing. Chlorhexidine is considered as a gold standard among mouth rinses. However, the most commonly known side effects include discolouration of teeth tongue particularly on dorsum part. Hence study was conducted evaluate effectiveness Bromelain rinse in gingival inflammation bacterial plaque adolescents.
 Methods methodology: This double-blinded, randomized controlled trial accordance with Consolidated Standards reporting Trials (CONSORT) Public Health Dentistry Department at Saveetha University. The protocol approved by Institutional Review Board (IRB). 30 patients moderate gingivitis were included study. All subjects signed an IRB-approved consent form. Participants from 15 19 years recruited Urban health programmes through dental camps.
 Results: No attempt made for oral prophylaxis before commencement severity accumulation assessed indices. Gingival index (Löe Silness, 1963) (Löe, 1967) measured initially baseline followed up days. participants instructed plain water thoroughly. They then directed spit into sterile plastic container after 5 minutes.At baseline, there no significant difference GI PI scores groups (P=0.78 0.62) respectively. At one month follow up, mean (P=0.02 P=0.01) respectively.
 Conclusion: mouthwash beneficial improving status due its profound styptic action, sufficient reduction without any adverse effects.
